“Daily discomfort is the price for enduring success.”
Have you ever noticed how growth tends to come from the things that feel... uncomfortable? If not, just ask a bodybuilder—they’ll tell you all about it! 🏋️♂️
When I was younger, my self-discipline muscles were weaker because I wasn’t really exercising them—I tended to take the easier route. But science shows that our brains can keep growing, no matter our age. So, a few years ago, I decided to start challenging myself more intentionally, and the difference in my productivity and performance has been huge.
🧠 Here’s what that looks like for me:
I could sleep in until 8:30 AM, but I choose 6:00. More quiet time to focus. I could go out for drinks for fun, but two years ago, I swapped alcohol for other leisure activities. Now, I feel clearer, more present, and more energetic. I could mindlessly scroll through TV or my phone, but instead, I challenge myself to read a couple of books each month.
The more I push myself, the more I feel like I’m unlocking my full potential. And honestly, it’s pretty exciting! 😃 The thing is, true joy doesn’t come from the easy wins.
This is exactly what I walk my clients through in coaching. It’s about training your brain the same way you’d train your body at the gym. It’s not about avoiding discomfort—it’s about leaning into it and using it to level up.
