What 80-year-old women taught me...
During my time in Altea, Spain, I had the privilege of volunteering at an elderly home for four months, running an emotional well-being workshop with a group of extraordinary women, all around 80 years old. My goal was simple: to create a space where they could feel heard, share their experiences, and learn from one another.
Here are my 3 key takeaways—and the question I’d ask you:
✨ Life is fleeting: Time passes quickly. One of the most impactful things I learned is that we’re often waiting for “the right moment” to act. But life is now. The best time to make a change, take a risk, or do something new is today. If not now, when? Stop waiting and start living with purpose because the time to act is always right now.
✨We’ll all be 85 one day: If we’re fortunate, we’ll all reach that age. So, how do we want to be treated? Compassion, respect, and kindness should be the cornerstones of how we engage with the elderly—and with each other. The way we treat others, especially those in vulnerable stages of life, reflects the world we want to create.
✨Wisdom in the elders: The elderly have lived through so much, and their life experiences offer invaluable insights. Unfortunately, this wisdom is often overlooked. Listening to their stories gave me a fresh perspective on what lies ahead, teaching me to appreciate every stage of life.
Volunteering at the elderly home reinforced that life—at every stage—is precious. And the best time to align with what truly matters is today.
So, here’s the question: Are you waiting for life to happen to you, or are you stepping into it fully?
