"I Can't do this" kind of day — Sound familiar?

Today was one of those days where everything felt off. My energy was low—not because I was physically exhausted, but because of my cycle. Some days, your body just needs more rest, and that’s completely okay. But there are other days when you know that staying in bed isn’t the solution. You can feel it—the moment you lie down, your mind starts racing. Before you know it, the flood of thoughts takes over, and you’re caught in a mental spiral. And we all know that’s the last thing we want to happen during those days of the month when emotions can already feel a bit out of balance.

So, I decided to adjust instead of giving in. I didn’t have to push myself to do everything, but I chose to show up for myself in smaller ways. I took a shower, went to the gym, treated myself to a healthy lunch at my favorite cafe, finished a book, and even prepped for upcoming coaching sessions with clients. By the end of the day, I felt a sense of accomplishment, despite feeling low energy at the start.

As women, we often feel the pressure to be “on” all the time, but that's not realistic. Our cycles affect our energy, and some days will feel harder than others. The key is knowing when to honor your body’s need for rest—and when to recognize that resting too long can lead to a mental spiral of irrational or exaggerated thoughts that make things worse.

Balance is about finding that sweet spot between rest and action. Rest when your body needs it, but if staying in bed triggers a negative mental cycle, sometimes it’s about gently pushing yourself to do just one small thing. It doesn’t have to be perfect; it just has to be progress.

So, the next time you’re faced with a day that feels impossible, remember: progress is progress, no matter how small. It’s all about finding your rhythm, honoring your needs, and being kind to yourself—because you are stronger than you think, even on your toughest days. You don’t have to be perfect to make progress, and sometimes, just showing up for yourself—one small step at a time—is all it takes to turn a low-energy day into a victory.
